Mpox Disease Intervention
The goal of this training is to prepare staff of local health departments to perform effective disease intervention interviews for mpox. This training builds on the Essential Interviewing Skills for Disease Intervention (EISDI) course and aims to apply course skills and knowledge to the complexities and nuances specifically related to mpox. EISDI is not a requirement for MDI.
Training Format
This training includes:
- Live webinar: 4 hours,
- Self-study material: approximately 3.5 hours
You must complete the 3.5 hours of self-study before attending the live webinar.

Training Course Information
Audience/Who Should Register: Local Health Jurisdiction (LHJ) and state employees who will be facilitating disease intervention interviews for mpox with members of the public.
Length of Training: This training includes one blended training (3.5 hours of self-study and 4 hours of a live webinar) and 2, two-hour learning collaboratives. For the blended training, you must complete approximately 3.5 hours of self-study on CPPR Learn before attending the live webinar.
Learning Objectives:
- Communicate accurate information about mpox symptoms, transmission, prevention, treatment, and services.
- Demonstrate awareness of the lived experiences of gay, bi, other men who have sex with men (MSM), including transgender men, and other trans people as it relates to mpox.
- Demonstrate a sex-positive, person-centered approach to taking a sexual history for mpox.
- Use motivational interviewing and health coaching tools to support clients in seeking vaccination, screening, or treatment for mpox.
- Examine personal and structural biases to reduce stigma during mpox interviews.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):
UCSF Pandemic Initiative for Equity and Action is an approved provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 17635. This training is approved for up to 7 continuing education hours (or 0.7 CEUs). Board requirements prevent us from offering CE credit to people who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of the training or leave the training early. Therefore, partial credit will not be awarded. For nurses pursuing continuing education units: in your Post-Course Assessment, fill out the questions about continuing education units and provide your license number.
